About Nakashiitake Mushroom Farm

Inagawa Town, where Nakashii Mushroom Farm is located, is located in the Hokusetsu region of Hyogo Prefecture, and is the source of the Inagawa River that flows through this area. In addition to being the source of a rich water system, it is also adjacent to the Kurokawa region, known as "Japan's No. 1 Satoyama."

Originally, charcoal and firewood were produced from sawtooth oak and konara oak trees that grew in the Satoyama area, and used to light baths and as fuel. However, with the spread of propane gas around 1950 (Showa 25), consumption of charcoal and firewood dropped dramatically, and the charcoal making industry fell into disuse.

So in 1955, our predecessor, Tomio Naka, began cultivating shiitake mushrooms using logs of sawtooth oak, konara oak, and mizunara oak that had been used for charcoal production. He taught other people who were also engaged in charcoal production how to cultivate shiitake mushrooms on logs, and produced and sold shiitake mushroom spawn.

While many shiitake mushrooms grown on beds are now available on the market, there is a reason why we insist on growing them on logs.

"If we don't keep cutting trees, the forest will die."

Satoyama is a place that only comes into existence when people and nature intertwine.

We believe that continuing to provide delicious mushrooms will help create an environment where people and nature can thrive together forever.

Message from the Director

Hello. I am Nakamori, the director of the school.
At Nakashiitake Mushroom Farm, we have been cultivating shiitake mushrooms on logs for over 60 years, a tradition passed down from our predecessors.
Log cultivation is hard work and requires a lot of time. The increase in imported mushrooms from China has made prices unstable.

With the decline in broad-leaved trees and fewer people to cut them down, the number of log-cultivation farmers has also decreased significantly . However, the shiitake mushrooms grown in the natural blessings of the Inagawa River and the lush green air have a taste that is hard to replace. We are working hard to cultivate shiitake mushrooms with the desire to continue this traditional way of growing them for as long as possible and to deliver delicious shiitake mushrooms to everyone.

Please come and enjoy our delicious mushrooms, which we have made with love and care.
